Welcome to Swiss Day 2016 |
Schweizer Nationalfeiertag 2016 (Swiss National Day 2016) opened this year with the call of Alpenhorns echoing and gently filling the streets surrounding the Swiss Embassy in Washington, D.C. The annual call welcomed many Swiss, family, and friends. The weather was a mix of sun and clouds before closing to a light rain to conclude the celebrations.
Cantonal Flags |
The national flag of Switzerland along with the flags of the 26 cantons were on display. Many cantonal flags danced and rolled in the wind.
First Aid and Tombola Stations |
All stations were manned.
Flag Throwing |
The flag was gently flown.
Bread, Senf (Mustard), Weisswurst, Knackwurst, Cucumber Salad, Potato Salad, and Complimentary Bottle of Water from Our Friends at Nestle |
Delicious bread, knackwurst, weisswurst, vegetarian alternative, cucumber salad, carrot salad, and potato salad were served with a complementary dessert of ice cream, cookies, a bishops hat, a birds nest, apple strudel, hazelnut croissant, or a Schnecke roll, most of which seemed to have whooshed their way out of the Swiss Bakery station by 7:00 P.M.
Raffle in a Light Rain |
The weather could not dissuade the interests of the Swiss. The annual raffle built up excitement and humor as usual as the crowds looked and listened in anticipation of a winning ticket.
Relaxing with Friends |
The friendly Laurie Weber of the Swiss Bakery performed tirelessly to ensure all guests were hosted comfortably before enjoying a conversation and a cold drink after the raffle.
Another Satisfying Swiss National Day Comes to a Close |
As usual, everyone leaves together happily despite the rain preventing the closing event of the fire lighting ceremony this year.
